Leadership requires developing a clear strategy for success.
Then, of course, true leaders need to communicate their vision, clarify the steps needed to reach the goal, create a fair and consistent performance management process, and elicit the full-fledged support of key stakeholders. There is talk, too, of creating a culture that supports the business results you seek. But, when it comes to performance, how much does culture really matter…is it a critical factor or fluff?
We contend that without the context of a high performance culture your strategy is likely to fail.
If your organization is not working at its potential, you risk embarking on a slippery slope downward. As a leader, you need to create a culture that rewards performance, commitment, talent and follow-through; you need to create a culture that recognizes and penalizes consistently poor performance. Otherwise, your high performers will be discouraged and disengaged and look elsewhere for an organization that will appreciate, reward, and push them.
Culture matters. As a leader, you are responsible for creating the performance environment that will best leverage your strategy.
