Three Simple Ways to Reinforce Higher Performance

Let’s keep it simple. There are three pretty easy moves you can make to boost your team’s level of engagement and performance. They are not difficult to implement, produce results relatively quickly, and require no lengthy assessments or surveys. When you are pushed for time and money, take these steps first…and then tend to your more full-blown and comprehensive performance management training initiative.
  1. Provide targeted development opportunities.  Based upon thousands of engagement surveys, we know that employees want a chance to grow and develop.  Give it to them.  Show your team that you have confidence in their ability to learn new skills and prove it by investing in their future with training, stretch assignments, job rotation, and coaching. Set goals for your employees that are possible but still stretch them. They will focus then on reaching higher and faster.
  2. Align with the importance of the overall mission.  Encourage employees by acknowledging their successes no matter how small and reiterating how their contribution brings you ever closer to the common goal. As they are recognized and understand that what they do is significant, their motivation will increase.
  3. Get to know individual team members.  Spend time with employees on an individual basis so you learn what makes them tick and what they like to do, what they want to accomplish and how they want to be perceived. Your understanding will help you in assigning tasks to the right person and making the whole system more efficient.
